Step 1: Install your Paglo Crawler
Install a Paglo Crawler on just one Windows computer to probe your entire network.
- In your email invitation to Paglo, click the link to open the Crawler download page in your browser. (Note: Paglo currently works best on Firefox.)
- On the Welcome to Paglo page, click the Download Paglo Crawler link to start the Install Wizard, and click Next to start installing.
- In the Folder field of the Select Installation Folder page, type the location where you want to install the Crawler, or click Browse to select another location. Then click Next to proceed.
- On the Read To Install page, click the Install button to start the installation process.
- As you wait, the status bar on the Installing the Paglo Crawler page shows the installation process whiz by.
- Step 1 is complete — the Crawler is installed. Click Go to Set Up to configure your Paglo Crawler. (Note: You can also reconfigure your Crawler at any time after installation.)
Step 2: Set up your Paglo Crawler
Configure your Paglo Crawler to probe your entire network. You can modify this configuration at any time after installation.
- On the Network Connection page, choose the network adapter and corresponding IP address that's connected to the network you want the Paglo Crawler to probe. The Crawler uses this information to see what devices are in your network. Then click Next to continue.
- On the SNMP, SSH, and Telnet Credentials page, click
Add to let
the Crawler know about the switch or router credentials. The Crawler adds an SNMP
credential of
publicby default during installation. You can click Edit or Delete to modify or remove these credentials at any time during or after this wizard. The Crawler uses this data to see which devices are connected to devices that use SNMP, SSH, or Telnet, such as switches, routers, or other hosts on your network. Click Next to continue. - On the Microsoft Domain Credentials page, enter the Username and Windows Domain name of your administrator credential. The Crawler uses this data when connecting to Windows machines via WMI and NetBIOS. We strongly encourage you to provide this optional information. Although the Crawler runs without it, this information greatly improves the quality that the Crawler can provide to you. Then click Next to continue.
- You're almost there. On the Register your Crawler page, if you're registering for the first time, provide the name of your organization. If you already have an account, provide your data key. This ties your Crawler to your Web account, where you can see the data that the Crawler discovers through a secure connection. Then click Next to continue.
- Your Crawler is now configured. Click Finish to save the setup and start the Crawler gathering your data. You can see what the Crawler discovers on your network by registering your Paglo Web account.
Note: SNMP credentials enable plugins to find data from devices that use SNMP, such as Switch Bridging Tables, and to collect MIB information. SSH and Telnet credentials enable the Crawler to find data from devices that run Unix. It runs commands on UNIX systems via SSH or Telnet to gather disk, memory, and processor information, as well as config files, kernel messages, and running processes.
Note: Windows credentials enable plugins to find data from Microsoft Exchange 2003 servers, from Windows Registry about Windows systems on the network, and from Windows machines that use WMI, such as device name, IP address, BIOS info, manufacturer, running processes, display settings, network adapter settings, installed updates, printer settings, services, disk info, processor info, shares, accounts, startup programs, memory info, anti-virus settings, and firewall settings.
Step 3: Register your Paglo Web account
Your Paglo Crawler is already collecting and indexing your data. It's also waiting for your password, so it can transport your data securely to your Paglo Web account. This last step registers your Web account so you can access your data on a secure connection.
- Provide the following information, and then click Signup:
- Your name — Enter the name that you want Paglo to know you by.
- Email Address — Enter the email address that you want Paglo to use to identify you. This prevents anyone else from accessing your account. It also gives you access to your data from any computer.
- Password — Provide a password for security, and confirm it.
- Are you human? — Enter the words that you see in the distored field to confirm that an automated spambot is not seeking access.
- Terms of service — Read the Terms of Service and then click the checkbox to accept.
- Help us prioritize enhancements to Paglo by completing a brief survey about what works best for you and your type of business.
- Congratulations, your Web account is registered! Your Crawler is already gathering and indexing data about your network. Paglo now sends you an email containing a link with which you can activate your account.
- When you receive your email from Paglo, click the link to activate your account and launch the Paglo login page in your browser.
- On the Paglo login page, provide your email address and password to log in to your secure Paglo Web account.
We'll send an email to you to validate your email address. In the mean time, you can access the general Paglo website at any time.
